Validate the effectiveness of your conformal coatings with Element’s industry-leading testing and inspection expertise.

Conformal coating provides electronic circuits with a protective barrier against moisture and contamination to ensure the electrical properties of a printed circuit assembly (PCA) are maintained. There are several common types of material used in conformal coatings, including:

    • Acrylic Resin
    • Epoxy
    • Urethane (Polyurethane) Resin (UR)
    • Silicone Resin (SR)
    • Poly-Para-Xylelene C, D, N
    • Amorphous Photopolymer
    • Fluorinated Poly-Para-Xylelene

ÈÕ±¾avÎÞÂëuses the latest standards and methods to provide consultation and testing services to conformal coating manufacturers and users including root cause failure analysis for adhesion, electrical, contamination, and other issues. We work with you to develop the proper testing program for your product and to help you identify the relevant standards.

Military conformal coating testing to MIL-I-46058C

ÈÕ±¾avÎÞÂëprovides testing to MIL-I-46058C, Amendment 7: Military Specification for Insulating Compound, Electrical (For Coating Printed Circuit Assemblies). This standard establishes qualification and conformance requirements for conformal coatings and determines which are suitable for application to printed circuit assemblies by dipping, brushing, spraying, or vacuum deposition. The status of this standard is “inactive for new design,” however, testing to this standard still allows a product to be placed on the Qualified Products List (QPL), from which all military manufacturers must select and use coatings.

This standard outlines the qualification, retention of qualification, and quality conformance testing for a conformal coating which is intended to be listed on the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Qualified Products List (QPL). The conformal coating manufacturer must submit the appropriate form 19M which DLA will receive and issue a reference number. Once this is received the manufacturer will select a DLA-approved laboratory and submit their coated specimens.
